Spirulina - What do you even do with it? It’s like an algae, but not...and also kind of a bacteria, but not…
Even more confusing is how to get it into your body. Does it taste good? Is it going to taste like wheatgrass shots? Because that stuff is nasty. Not to worry, here at ALOVITOX®, we’ve done the experimentation for you. We’ve taste-tested, we've recipe-tested, we’ve tested, okay?
Still feeling intimidated? We’ve got you covered. Here’s a few of our favorite recipes (and our hands to hold) to get you through your spirulina anxiety:
DRINKS:
Bevs - but what kinda?
Freshly squeezed lemonade, Kombucha, La Croix - any zesty drink with a little tang will do a great job of masking the green-y flavor of spirulina. Ever take magnesium powder? One of our favorite quick and tasty ways to get spirulina in is to mask it with tart and tangy magnesium powder. Just a quick stir and you’re done!
SPIRULINA PESTO:
This is the perfect way to hide this little protein-packed cyanobacteria! This is such a great side to bring to a holiday party or get together with friends.
It’s healthy, its easy to snack on, and who doesn’t love pesto??
Honestly, why people aren’t packaging this up and selling it in Whole Foods, we do not know. But in the mean time, it will be our little secret!
Basil, pine nuts, and a little nutritional yeast will dress this bad boy right up! You won’t even taste the spirulina, but you’ll be reaping all of its health benefits. Here, we’ve even hooked you up with a quick + easy recipe:
- 1 cup pine nuts, very lightly toasted
- ½ cup nutritional yeast, you can add more to taste
- 3 handfuls fresh basil
- 1-3 cloves garlic, chopped
- Himalayan pink salt
- Ground black pepper
- 1 TBS extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tsp ALOVITOX® Spirulina Powder, bby! (or more if you’re feelin’ freaky)
Blend ingredients in a food processor or high-powered blender and VIOALA! Ready for dipping and spreading.
Last, but certainly not least, you know we had to finish it off with dessert. The jaw-dropper...
SPIRULINA TRUFFLES:
This one is a little bit more common in the internet world, so you might have already seen spirulina truffles before. But could all those internet people be wrong? Absolutely. But we should at least try it for ourselves, to be sure! Here’s our tried and true, tested truffle recipe. Whip it up and tell us what you think.
TRUFFLES:
- 2 cups cashews, soaked overnight in fridge, then drained
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 TBS coconut oil, melted, refined or unrefined is your choice
- 2 tsp ALOVITOX® Spirulina Powder
- 1/2 tsp Himalayan pink salt
Combine above ingredients in a food processor, then scoop out into little balls with a melon-baller, a cookie dough scoop, or your good ol’ fashioned hands. Refrigerate and then enjoy, or hit that next level greatness, and cover them in this chocolate coating:
CHOCOLATE COATING (optional, but BOMB):
- 12 ounces of extra dark chocolate, at least 70%
- 1 TBS coconut oil, refined or unrefined is your choice
- Top with anything your heart desires, coconut sugar, pink salt, rose petals, lavender, or even encrust the whole thing in our yacon-sweetened cacao nibs!
